Comprehensive Drone Pilot Training
The demand for skilled drone pilots has increased and if you are considering a career change or looking to transform your hobby of flight into a career, becoming a drone pilot is an option worth considering.
In order to fly your drone under the FAA’s Small UAS Rule (Part 107), you must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA. This certificate demonstrates that you understand the regulations, operating requirements, and procedures for safely flying drones.

Eligibility
To become a Drone Pilot you must:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English
- Be in a physical and mental condition to safely fly a drone
- Pass the initial aeronautical knowledge exam: “Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG)”
Steps To Complete Based On Your Experience
Are you a first time Pilot?
- Schedule to complete the Drone Pilot ground school at The Pilot Place.
- Obtain a FAA Tracking Number (FTN) with the assistance of The Pilot Place instructor.
- Schedule the Drone Pilot Test at a FAA approved testing center.
- Pass the Drone Pilot Test
- Submit an 8710-13 in IACRA with the assistance of The Pilot Place.
- A confirmation email will be sent when an applicant has completed the TSA security background check. This email will provide instructions for printing a copy of the temporary remote pilot certificate from IACRA!
Are you a current FAA certificate holder?
- You must have a current Flight Review within the past 24 months.
- Complete the online training course.
- Submit an 8710-13 in IACRA
- Schedule with The Pilot Place Instructor to sign the 8710-13 to obtain your new certificate!
